Step 1: Determine the cause
* Check the automatic transmission fluid level and its condition (should be red or pink, without a burning smell).
* Scan the error codes using the OBD2 diagnostic scanner.
Step 2: Eliminate the cause
*Low automatic transmission fluid level: Top up with the automatic transmission fluid recommended by your vehicle.
* Contaminated automatic transmission fluid: Replace the automatic transmission fluid and filter.
* Electrical Problems: Check the transmission wiring and connections for damage or corrosion.
* Mechanical Problems: Have a qualified mechanic diagnose and repair the internal mechanisms of the automatic transmission (e.g. clutches, gears).
Step 3: Reset Emergency Mode
After eliminating the cause of the emergency mode, it must be reset. This can be done in two ways:
* Reset using OBD2 diagnostic scanner: Connect the scanner to the car and reset the error codes.
* Turning the ignition off/on: Turn off the ignition and leave it off for 10 minutes. Then start the engine again.
Step 4. Check functionality
* Drive the car and check if the emergency mode disappears.
* Be aware of any unusual sounds, smells, or vibrations while driving.
Additional Tips
*If the limp mode still persists, contact a qualified mechanic for further diagnosis.
*Be sure to follow the correct level and type of automatic transmission fluid as specified in your vehicle’s owner’s manual.
* Check the automatic transmission fluid and its condition regularly.
* Avoid sudden acceleration and braking, which can damage the automatic transmission.
