Driving a Scania truck with an automated transmission (automatic transmission)

Gear shift position

* Neutral (N): Engine running, transmission disabled.
* Reverse (R): Shifts into reverse.
* Drive (D): Normal driving mode.
* Manual mode (+/-): Manual gear shifting using steering wheel paddles.

Basic Operation

1. Starting the engine: Press the brake pedal, turn the ignition key and start the engine.
2. Gear selection: Select the desired gear (N, R or D) using the gear shift lever.
3. Starting to move: Release the brake pedal and smoothly press the accelerator pedal. The transmission will automatically shift to the appropriate gear.
4. Manual shift: For manual shifting, use the paddle shifters. The left paddle shifts to a lower gear, and the right – to a higher gear.
5. Stopping the car: Press the brake pedal until the car stops.

Additional automatic transmission functions

* Parking mode (P): Set when parked for a long time and locks the transmission.
* Neutral Roll Mode (N): Disengages the transmission when coasting, reducing fuel consumption.
* Maneuvering Mode: Provides increased traction when maneuvering at low speeds.
* Hill Start Function: Holds the vehicle in place when starting off on a hill, preventing it from rolling away.

Management Tips

* Use the lowest possible gear for more traction and control.
*Upshift when the engine speed reaches the correct speed to improve fuel efficiency.
* Avoid sudden acceleration or braking as this may cause wear to the transmission.
* Carry out automatic transmission maintenance regularly in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.
