Checking the operation of the automatic transmission

1. Checking fluid levels:

* Check the automatic transmission fluid level with the engine running and park gear engaged.
* Make sure the level is between the “cold” and “hot” marks on the dipstick.
* The liquid should be red or pink.

2. Gear shift check:

* Move the gear shift lever to all positions and check whether the shift occurs smoothly.
* Pay attention to vibrations, slipping or jerking.

3. Checking slippage:

* Find a flat surface and accelerate the car to a speed of about 50-60 km/h.
* Press the gas pedal sharply and observe whether the gearbox slips.

4. Checking for errors:

* Connect a diagnostic scanner to the vehicle and check for fault codes.
*These codes may indicate problems with the transmission or other components associated with it.

5. Appearance check:

* Inspect the transmission for leaks, damage or corrosion.
* Make sure all electrical connectors are securely connected.

6. Checking the operation of solenoids:

* Solenoids control gear shifting.
* Try resetting the transmission adaptation to clear the solenoid memory.
*Follow manufacturer’s instructions for your specific vehicle model.

7. Checking the torque converter:

* The torque converter is used to transmit torque from the engine to the gearbox.
* Check for vibration or noise when shifting gears.

Other tips:

* Change the automatic transmission fluid and filter regularly in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.
* Avoid aggressive driving which may damage the transmission.
