Checking the automatic transmission oil level on Mitsubishi Outlander cars

Required tools:

*Clean rag or paper towels
* Key or 10mm hex wrench

Instructions:

1. Place the car on a level surface. Check the oil level only with the vehicle parked on a level surface with the engine running and the gear shift lever in the “Park” position.
2. Start the engine and warm it up. Let the engine idle for a few minutes to allow the oil to warm up and expand.
3. Open the hood and find the automatic transmission dipstick. It is usually located on or near the left side of the engine.
4. Pull out the dipstick and wipe it with a clean rag or paper towels. Make sure that the rag or towels do not leave any fibers that could get into the oil.
5. Insert the dipstick back into the tube. Push the dipstick all the way in and then pull it out.
6. Check the oil level. The oil level on the dipstick should be between the “Hot” or “Cold” marks (depending on whether the engine is warm).

Normal oil level:

The oil level should be between the “Hot” and “Cold” marks on the dipstick.

If the oil level is too low:

Add the missing amount of transmission fluid through the filler hole of the dipstick. Use one of the following:

* Mitsubishi ATF SP III transmission fluid
* Compatible transmission fluid approved by Mitsubishi

If the oil level is too high:

Drain excess transmission fluid through the automatic transmission drain plug.

Warnings:

* Do not overfill transmission fluid. This can lead to problems with the automatic transmission.
*Always use the transmission fluid recommended by the manufacturer.
* If you are in doubt about checking the automatic transmission oil level correctly, seek professional help.
