The automatic transmission torque converter is attached to the engine and gearbox in several ways:

Engine mount:

* Mounting Hub: The torque converter has a hub that is bolted to the engine crankshaft.
*Flange Connection: Some torque converters have a flange that is bolted to the engine flywheel.

Attachment to gearbox:

* Closing Clutch: The clutch that connects the torque converter to the transmission input shaft is bolted to the torque converter.
* Spacer plate: In some automatic transmission designs, the torque converter is separated from the gearbox by a spacer plate that is attached to both sides.

Additional fasteners:

*Water Pump: The torque converter often has a built-in water pump that is bolted to the transmission.
* Torque converter support: A support or bracket can support the torque converter in place, especially in large or heavy transmissions.

Mounting order:

1. Install the torque converter to the engine using suitable fasteners.
2. Install the spacer plate (if equipped).
3. Connect the closing clutch to the transmission input shaft.
4. Install the gearbox onto the torque converter and secure it with fasteners.
5. Connect the water pump or install the torque converter support (if equipped).
