Location and replacement of the transmission cable in a Ford Focus 2 with an automatic transmission

Cable location

* The transmission cable is located in the engine compartment, to the right of the engine.
* It connects the interior gear selector to the gearbox.

Tools required for replacement

* Set of ratchet wrenches or socket wrenches
* Phillips screwdriver
* Pliers

Replacement procedure

1. Ensure safety

* Stop the engine and wait until it cools down.
* Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.

2. Remove the air filter

* Loosen the air filter clamp.
* Disconnect the air filter and air duct.

3. Disconnect the cable from the gear shift lever

* Unscrew the nut connecting the cable to the gear shift lever.
* Remove the cable from the lever.

4. Disconnect the cable from the gearbox

* Loosen the clamp securing the cable to the gearbox.
* Disconnect the cable from the gearbox.

5. Remove the cable

* Pull the cable out of the engine compartment.

6. Installing a new cable

* Route the new cable through the engine compartment.
* Attach the cable to the gearbox and tighten the clamp.
* Attach the cable to the gear shift lever and tighten the nut.

7. Install the air filter

* Install the air filter and air duct.
* Tighten the air filter clamp.

8. Connect the battery

* Connect the negative terminal of the battery.

9. Checking the work

* Start the engine and shift the gear selector to all positions.
* Make sure the transmission shifts smoothly and without any abnormal noise.
