Chevrolet Cruze automatic transmission control diagram

Transmission Control Module (TCM)

* Controls all transmission functions
* Interface with engine control module (ECM)
*Receives input data from various sensors
* Provides output signals to automatic transmission solenoids and sensors

Automatic transmission solenoids

* Linear Pressure Solenoid (LPS): regulates fluid pressure in the clutch pack
*Transmission Shift Solenoids (TSS): Shifts gears
* Torque Converter Lockup Solenoid (TCC): Locks the torque converter for improved efficiency in higher gears

Automatic transmission sensors

*Input axis speed sensor: monitors the rotation speed of the input shaft
*Output axis speed sensor: monitors the rotation speed of the output shaft
* Gear selector position sensor (PRNDL): detects the selected gear
* ATF temperature sensor: monitors the temperature of the automatic transmission fluid

Input signals

*Engine speed from ECM
*Engine load from ECM
* Vehicle speed from ABS sensors
* Gear selector position from PRNDL sensor

Output signals

* ATF fluid pressure to LPS solenoids
* Power supply to TSS solenoids
*Power supply to TCC solenoid
* Fault codes for ECM

Management process

1. The TCM receives input signals and determines the desired gear.
2. The TCM sends output signals to the appropriate solenoids to change fluid pressure and shift gears.
3. Automatic transmission sensors provide feedback to the TCM to regulate fluid pressure and gear changes.
4. The ECM and TCM interact to optimize transmission and engine performance.
