Car electrical check
Tools and materials:
* Multimeter
* Screwdrivers
* Keys
* Lubricant for battery terminals
Verification steps:
1. Battery check
* Check the battery voltage using a multimeter. It should be between 12.6-12.8 volts with the engine off and 13.8-14.4 volts with the engine running.
* Inspect the battery terminals for corrosion or looseness. Clean the terminals and lubricate them.
* Check the wire connections and make sure they are secure.
2. Checking the generator
* Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
* Check the voltage at the battery terminals using a multimeter. It should remain in the range of 13.8–14.4 volts.
* Disconnect one battery terminal and start the engine. If the engine continues to run, the generator is good.
3. Checking the starter
* Try starting the engine.
* If the starter does not turn over, check the fuses and relays associated with the starter.
* If the fuses and relays are OK, check the wire connections at the starter.
* If all connections are fine, the starter itself may be faulty.
4. Lighting check
* Turn on your headlights, taillights, turn signals and brake lights.
* Check if all lamps are working properly.
* Inspect the lamp sockets for corrosion or looseness.
*Check the fuses associated with the lighting.
5. Checking fuses
* Inspect all fuses for blown or loose fuses.
* Replace blown fuses with fuses of the same rating.
*If fuses blow repeatedly, there may be a short circuit in the electrical system.
6. Wiring check
* Visually inspect electrical wiring for damage, exposed wires, or poor insulation.
* Use a multimeter to check wiring continuity and look for short circuits.
* Repair or replace damaged wires as needed.
7. Ground check
* Check that all grounding points are securely connected.
* Clean and tighten all ground connections.
* Check the ground circuit using a multimeter.
Adviсe:
*Ensure safety by disconnecting the battery before working on electrical components.
*Use proper tools and materials.
*If you are unsure of your abilities, seek assistance from a qualified mechanic.
* Check your vehicle’s electrical system regularly to prevent problems from occurring.
