Car trailer electrics
To safely and securely connect a trailer to a passenger vehicle, the trailer’s electrical system must be installed and properly connected. Here are the main components and procedures:
Components
*Trailer Socket: Installed on the vehicle and provides a connection between the vehicle and the trailer.
*Trailer Plug: Connects to the trailer outlet and introduces electricity into the trailer.
* Wiring: Connects the socket and plug to various lights and other electrical equipment in the trailer.
* Lights: Includes turn signals, brake lights, parking lights and license plate light.
*Additional electrical equipment: May include interior lights, brakes, refrigerator or other appliances that require power.
Connection procedure
1. Make sure the vehicle and trailer are turned off.
2. Locate the socket on the vehicle and the plug on the trailer.
3. Align the plug and socket and insert the plug into the socket.
4. Secure the plug to the outlet with a clamp or locking mechanism.
5. Check the operation of the lights and other electrical equipment on the trailer.
Wire color coding
Each wire in the trailer’s electrical system is color coded to ensure correct connections:
*White: Ground
*Yellow: Left turn signal
*Green: Right turn signal
*Red: Brake lights
*Brown: Side lights
* Blue: Fog lights (optional)
*Black: Additional 12V power supply (optional)
