Removing the automatic transmission valve body

Tools and materials:

* Set of wrenches or ratchets with heads
* Flat head screwdriver
* Torx screwdriver (if necessary)
* Transmission fluid
* Valve block gasket
* Brake cleaner
* Retaining rings (if required)

Procedure:

1. Ensure safety. Place the vehicle in park, apply the parking brake, and disconnect the negative battery terminal.
2. Drain the transmission fluid. Find the drain plug on the automatic transmission pan and drain the fluid into a suitable container.
3. Remove the automatic transmission pan. Unscrew the bolts securing the pan to the automatic transmission housing and remove the pan. Pour out any remaining transmission fluid.
4. Disconnect electrical connectors. Locate and disconnect all electrical connectors from the valve body.
5. Remove the automatic transmission filter (if equipped). Some automatic transmission models have a removable filter. Find the filter and remove it.
6. Locate and remove retaining rings (if equipped). On some models, the valve body is held in place by retaining rings. Use pliers to remove these rings.
7. Loosen the valve body mounting bolts. Locate the bolts that secure the valve body to the automatic transmission housing. Loosen them, but do not unscrew them completely.
8. Carefully remove the valve body. Using a flat-head screwdriver or a plastic tool, carefully pry the valve body and remove it from the automatic transmission housing. Be careful not to damage the valve body or internal components.

Cleaning and installation:

1. Clean the valve body. Use brake cleaner and clean rags to remove dirt, debris, and transmission fluid residue from the valve body and surrounding surfaces.
2. Replace the valve body gasket. Remove the old gasket and install a new one.
3. Reinstall the valve body. Insert the valve body into the automatic transmission housing and tighten the fastening bolts. Make sure the valve body is installed correctly and tightened to the torque specified in the repair manual.
4. Install retaining rings (if equipped). Reinstall the retaining rings.
5. Install the automatic transmission filter (if equipped). Install a new or cleaned automatic transmission filter.
6. Connect the electrical connectors. Connect all electrical connectors to the valve body.
7. Install the automatic transmission pan. Install a new pan gasket and tighten the pan bolts to the torque specified in the repair manual.
8. Fill with transmission fluid. Add the required amount of transmission fluid to the automatic transmission.
9. Check the fluid level. Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes. Check the transmission fluid level and add it if necessary.

Adviсe:

* Take extra care when handling the valve body as it is a sensitive component.
* If the valve body is damaged, it must be replaced.
* After installing the valve body, reprogram or calibrate the transmission if specified in the repair manual.
