Automatic transmission solenoids Nissan Almera N16

Automatic transmission solenoids are solenoid valves that control gear changes in an automatic transmission. Nissan Almera N16 is equipped with a 4-speed automatic transmission RE4F04B, which has the following solenoids:

1. Torque Converter Lockup Solenoid (TCC)

*Activated when reaching a certain speed and throttle position
* Locks the torque converter, improving efficiency and fuel economy

2. Shift solenoid 1-2 (1-2 Sol)

*Activated for shifting from 1st to 2nd gear

3. Shift solenoid 2-3 (2-3 Sol)

*Activated for shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear

4. Line Pressure Solenoid (LPS)

* Regulates line pressure in the transmission, which determines shift pressure and clutch operation
*Controlled by Transmission Control Module (TCM)

5. Pressure control solenoid (PCS)

*Adjusts clutch pressure required to shift gears
*Also controlled by TCM

Solenoid locations:

The solenoids are located in the automatic transmission hydraulic control unit, which is located in the gearbox itself.

Troubleshooting:

Faulty solenoids can lead to the following problems:

* Problems with gear shifting
* Gear slippage
* Delays when shifting gears
*Transmission fluid leak

To diagnose solenoid faults, you can use an OBD-II scanner or perform a solenoid resistance test with a multimeter.

Replacement:

Only a qualified transmission technician should replace solenoids. Replacement usually involves the following steps:

* Removing the automatic transmission pan
* Removing the hydraulic control unit
* Replacement of faulty solenoids
* Reinstalling the hydraulic control unit
* Installation of automatic transmission pan
* Filling with new transmission fluid
