Reasons for automatic transmission slipping when shifting:

*Low Transmission Fluid: Insufficient transmission fluid can result in insufficient system pressure, causing gears to slip.
* Dirty Transmission Fluid: Dirty or old transmission fluid does not lubricate properly and creates friction that causes slippage.
* Worn Friction Discs: The friction discs in the transmission wear over time, reducing their ability to transmit power and can cause slippage.
* Damaged torque converter: The torque converter converts engine torque into energy that powers the transmission. A damaged torque converter can cause gear slippage.
* Solenoid problems: The solenoids control the transmission hydraulic system to change gears. Faulty solenoids can cause improper shifting and slipping of gears.
*Damaged Shaft: A damaged shaft in the transmission can make shifting difficult and cause slipping.
* Faulty Transmission Control Module (TCM): The TCM is responsible for controlling the transmission. A faulty TCM can cause improper shifting and slipping of gears.

Diagnosis and correction:

1. Check the transmission fluid level: Check the transmission fluid dipstick and add fluid if necessary.
2. Replace transmission fluid and filter: Contaminated transmission fluid must be replaced. Also replace the filter to remove particles and debris.
3. Diagnose and Replace Worn Friction Discs: Have your mechanic diagnose your worn friction discs and replace them as needed.
4. Repair or replace damaged torque converter: Have a mechanic determine the damage and have the torque converter repaired or replaced.
5. Troubleshoot Solenoids: Have a mechanic diagnose the faulty solenoids and replace them as needed.
6. Check and replace damaged shaft: Have a mechanic diagnose the damaged shaft and replace it as needed.
7. Diagnose and replace a faulty TCM: Have a mechanic diagnose the faulty TCM and replace it as necessary.
