Peugeot 308 automatic transmission operating modes
The Peugeot 308 automatic transmission has several operating modes:
* D (Drive): Normal driving mode. The transmission automatically changes gears depending on speed and engine load.
* M (Manual): Manual mode. The driver manually changes gears using the gear lever or steering wheel paddles.
* N (Neutral): Neutral position. The gearbox is disconnected from the engine. Used when towing or stopping for a long time.
* P (Park): Parking position. The gearbox is locked and the rear wheels are braked. Used only when the vehicle is completely stopped.
Shifting gears
Automatic mode (D)
In automatic mode, the transmission changes gears independently. The driver simply operates the accelerator and brake pedals.
Manual mode (M)
* To switch to manual mode, move the gear lever to the left to the “M” position.
* To downshift, push the gear lever forward.
* To upshift, push the gear lever backward.
*You can also change gears using the paddle shifters on the steering wheel. The left paddle is for downshifting, and the right is for upshifting.
Recommendations for shifting gears
* Downshift when driving at low speeds, climbing steep hills, or overtaking.
*Upshift when reaching higher speeds or when driving on flat roads.
* Do not shift to neutral (N) while driving. This may damage the transmission.
* Move the gear selector to position “P” only after the vehicle has come to a complete stop.
