Checking the oil level in the automatic transmission of Toyota Highlander

Requirements:

* Toyota WS automatic transmission engine oil or similar
* Funnel for filling
*Clean napkin or rag

Check procedure:

1. Place the car on a level surface. This is necessary to ensure an accurate oil level reading.

2. Warm up the engine and gearbox. Drive the vehicle for several minutes until operating temperature is reached.

3. Stop the engine. This will allow the oil to drain back into the oil pan.

4. Remove the oil level dipstick. It is located on the driver’s side of the engine compartment. Wipe the dipstick with a clean cloth or rag.

5. Insert the dipstick back into the tube. Remove the dipstick and inspect the oil level.

Oil level determination:

* Normal level: The oil should be between “HOT” and “COLD” on the dipstick.
*Low level: If the oil is below the “COLD” mark, you need to add oil.
*High level: If the oil is above the “HOT” mark, excess oil must be pumped out.

Adding oil:

If the oil level is low, follow these steps:

1. Find the automatic transmission filler hole. It is usually located on the top of the automatic transmission.
2. Insert a funnel into the filler hole.
3. Fill in the required amount of oil. Add it gradually and check the level after each addition.
4. After filling, reinsert the dipstick. Check the level again to make sure it is correct.

Warnings:

* Use only Toyota WS automatic transmission engine oil or its equivalent. Using other oils may damage the automatic transmission.
* Do not pour oil into the automatic transmission. Excessive oil can cause foaming, which will reduce automatic transmission performance.
* Check the oil level in the automatic transmission regularly. Low oil level can lead to damage to the automatic transmission.
