Self-diagnosis of Nissan Terrano automatic transmission
To carry out self-diagnosis of an automatic transmission on a Nissan Terrano, you will need:
* Ignition key
* Paperclip or other pointed object
Procedure:
1. Place the gear shift lever in the “P” (park) position.
2. Turn off the engine.
3. Insert a paperclip into the self-test hole located to the left of the steering column (usually under the instrument panel).
4. Turn on the ignition, but do not start the engine.
5. Within 5 seconds, use a paper clip to close the contacts in the hole twice, with an interval of 1 second.
6. Remove the clip and start the engine.
7. The automatic transmission will be diagnosed and fault codes will flash on the dashboard.
Deciphering fault codes:
* 1 flash: No errors.
* 2 flashes: Input shaft sensor fault.
* 3 flashes: Output shaft sensor fault.
* 4 flashes: Shift solenoid fault.
* 5 flashes: Torque converter lock-up solenoid malfunction.
* 6 flashes: Power circuit failure.
* 7 flashes: Speed sensor malfunction.
* 8 flashes: Malfunction of the automatic transmission control module.
* 9 flashes: CAN bus fault (communication with engine ECU).
Note:
* Sometimes the fault code may flash several times in a row.
* If the fault code does not flash, it means the automatic transmission is operating normally.
* If a malfunction is found, contact a service station for further diagnosis and repair.
