Adjusting the position of the automatic transmission selector

Required tools:

* 10 mm wrench or socket
* 12mm wrench or socket

Steps:

1. Safety first:

* Place the car on a level surface.
*Place the gear shift lever in the “Park” position.
* Apply the parking brake.

2. Remove the selector cover:

* Remove the two 10mm cap screws at the base of the selector cover.
* Remove the cover.

3. Loosen the adjustment nuts:

*Locate the two 12mm nuts located on the base of the selector.
* Loosen them with a 12mm wrench or socket.

4. Adjust the position of the selector:

* Move the gear selector to the “Park” position.
* Make sure that the center line of the selector lever matches the center line of the letter “P” on the control panel.
* If necessary, adjust the adjustment nuts to level the selector.

5. Tighten the adjustment nuts:

* Use a 12 mm wrench or socket to tighten the adjustment nuts.
*Do not over-tighten them.

6. Install the selector cover:

* Align the selector cover with the base and tighten the two 10mm screws.

7. Checking the adjustment:

* Shift the gear selector through all positions.
* Make sure it shifts smoothly and locks securely in each position.

* Check the selector lever adjustment regularly, especially after transmission repair or maintenance.
