Adjusting the Opel automatic transmission

Equipment requirements:

* Opel Tech 2 diagnostic scanner or similar
* ATF fluid for Opel gearboxes
* Transmission oil filter
*Measuring container for ATF fluid
* Torque wrench
* New transmission pan seal

Adjustment procedure:

1. Preparation:

* Warm up the engine to operating temperature and park the car on a level surface.
* Install the diagnostic scanner and connect it to the vehicle’s diagnostic connector.
* Raise the vehicle on a lift to provide access to the transmission pan.

2. Reset adaptive values:

* Using the diagnostic scanner, select the “Electronic control units” menu.
* Select the “Gearbox” control unit.
* Select the “Reset Adaptive Values” function.
* Confirm the reset by following the instructions on the scanner screen.

3. Changing ATF fluid and oil filter:

* Unscrew the drain plug on the transmission pan and drain the ATF into a measuring container.
* Replace the transmission oil filter with a new one.
* Install a new pan seal.
* Fill the transmission with the required amount of new ATF specified in the vehicle’s owner’s manual.

4. Checking the ATF fluid level:

* Start the engine and warm it up to operating temperature.
* Shift the gear selector to different positions, holding each position for a few seconds.
* Return the gear selector to “P” (park).
* Check the ATF fluid level using the dipstick. The level should be between the “min” and “max” marks on the dipstick.
*Add ATF if necessary.

5. Electronic adaptation:

* Using the diagnostic scanner, select the Special Features menu.
* Select the “Electronic transmission adaptation” function.
*Follow the instructions on the scanner screen to complete the electronic adaptation.
*Note: Some Opel models do not require electronic adaptation.

6. Checking the operation of the gearbox:

*Take a test drive to check that the transmission is operating correctly.
* Check for smooth gear shifting and absence of slipping or other malfunctions.

Recommendations:

* It is recommended to adjust the automatic transmission every 60,000 – 80,000 km.
* To extend the life of the transmission, it is recommended to use only high quality ATF fluid that meets Opel specifications.
* If after adjustment there are any problems with the operation of the transmission, you should contact a qualified mechanic for further diagnosis and repair.
