Checking and adjusting the brake band of the automatic transmission 42RE
Required tools:
* 10 mm socket wrench
* Phillips screwdriver
* Gear oil
* Rags
??:
1. Prepare the vehicle: Raise the vehicle and place it on stands. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
2. Remove the oil pan: Loosen the oil pan bolts, then remove the oil pan carefully to avoid spilling oil. Clean the pan and crankcase gasket of old sealant.
3. Locate the brake band: The brake band is located at the rear of the automatic transmission, next to the brake band piston.
4. Measure the gap: Measure the gap between the brake band and the drum using a feeler gauge with a thickness of 0.1-0.25 mm. The permissible gap is 0.1-0.25 mm.
5. Band Adjustment: If the gap is too large or small, the brake band needs to be adjusted. To do this, loosen the adjusting nut bolts on the brake band piston. Turn the adjusting nut clockwise to decrease the clearance or counterclockwise to increase the clearance.
6. Retighten the bolts: Once the desired clearance is achieved, tighten the adjuster nut bolts.
7. Install the oil pan: Apply new sealant to the oil pan and install the oil pan. Tighten the oil pan bolts.
8. Add gear oil: Add gear oil until it comes out of the fill plug. The oil level should be at the “hot” mark on the dipstick.
9. Connect the battery: Connect the negative terminal of the battery.
10. Check operation: Start the vehicle and let it idle for a few minutes. Make sure the gears shift smoothly and there is no slipping.
