Adjusting the automatic transmission shift cable

Required tools:

* Set of keys
* Flat head screwdriver

Steps:

1. Find the automatic transmission shift cable

* It is usually located near the engine or transmission.

2. Loosen the nut on the bracket

* Locate the bracket that secures the cable to the transmission.
*Use a wrench to loosen the nut on the bracket, but do not remove it completely.

3. Place the gear shift lever in neutral position

* Enter the vehicle and move the gear shift lever to neutral.

4. Adjust cable slack

* Check if there is any clearance between the nut and the bracket.
* Use a flathead screwdriver to adjust the cable slack, moving the nut up or down as needed.
* Leave about 1-2 mm of free play on the cable.

5. Tighten the nut

*Once you have adjusted the cable slack correctly, tighten the nut on the bracket with a wrench.

6. Check for proper operation

* Get into the car and start the engine.
* Move the gearshift lever through all gears and check whether the gears shift smoothly.

7.Re-adjust if necessary

*If gears do not shift smoothly, repeat steps 3-6 until proper operation is achieved.
