Adjusting the automatic transmission cable of Toyota Town Ace

Required tools:

* Set of keys
* Phillips screwdriver

Procedure:

1. Place the gear shift lever in the “P” position.

2. Open the hood and find the automatic transmission cable. It is usually located next to the engine and has a plastic jacket.

3. Loosen the locknut on the shift lever end of the cable. Do this using the key.

4. Loosen the bolts securing the cable to the automatic transmission bracket. The bolts are usually located at the bottom of the bracket.

5. Adjust the cable length. To do this, turn the adjusting nut at the end of the cable on the automatic transmission side. Clockwise rotation shortens the cable, counterclockwise rotation lengthens it.

6. Make sure the cable is the correct length. As the shift lever moves through all shift positions, there should be no slack or tension between the cable and the shift lever.

7. Tighten the cable mounting bolts.

8. Tighten the locknut.

9. Check the operation of the automatic transmission. Shift the gear lever to all positions and make sure that the gears shift smoothly and without slipping.
