Adjusting the automatic transmission cable on a Toyota Windom
Required tools:
* Phillips screwdriver
* 10mm wrench
* Pliers
Instructions:
1. Finding the adjustment location: Find the automatic transmission cable that connects the gear shift lever to the gearbox. It is usually located on the side of the transmission.
2. Loosen the locknut: Locate the locknut that holds the cable in the adjustment group. Loosen the locknut using a 10mm wrench.
3. Cable adjustment: Turn the adjustment group with your fingers or pliers. Turn the group counterclockwise to loosen the cable, or clockwise to tighten it.
4. Checking the adjustment: Shift the gear lever to the “Park” position. Hold down the brake pedal and try shifting the lever to the Drive position. If the lever shifts easily and smoothly, the adjustment is correct.
5. Tightening the Lock Nut: Once you have achieved the desired adjustment, tighten the lock nut using a 10mm wrench.
6. Reset shift lever memory: Start the engine and shift the shift lever to all positions in order (P, R, N, D, 2, L). This will reset the shift lever memory and teach it the new adjustment.
Notes:
*Always check the transmission fluid level after adjusting the cable.
*If you have difficulty adjusting the cable, consult a qualified mechanic.
* Incorrect automatic transmission cable adjustment can lead to shifting problems and other transmission problems.
