Automatic transmission solenoids Mitsubishi Pajero II

The Mitsubishi Pajero II automatic transmission uses the following solenoids:

1. Line Pressure Solenoid (PCS)

* Monitors overall pressure in the transmission system.

2. Shift solenoid 1-2 (S1)

* Ensures that gear 2 is engaged.

3. Shift solenoid 2-3 (S2)

* Ensures that gear 3 is engaged.

4. Shift solenoid 3-4 (S3)

* Ensures that gear 4 is engaged.

5. Torque Converter Lockup Solenoid (TCC)

* Locks the torque converter at high rpm for improved fuel economy.

6. Reverse clutch solenoid (BR)

* Engages reverse clutch.

7. Manual shift solenoid (M)

* Allows the driver to change gears manually.

8. Downshift solenoid (T)

* Includes downshift.

9. Kickdown solenoid (KD)

* Provides quick downshifting when pressing the gas pedal sharply.

Solenoid Location

The solenoids are located in the automatic transmission valve body, which is located inside the transmission housing.

Replacing solenoids

To replace the solenoids, you need to remove the valve body and replace the faulty solenoids with new ones. This is a complex job that is best left to a certified mechanic.

Symptoms of faulty solenoids

Faulty solenoids can cause a variety of symptoms, including:

* Gear slippage
*Hard gear shifts
* No gear engagement
* Strange noises from automatic transmission
* Check Engine Lamp (CEL) comes on
