Removing the hydraulic plate (hydraulic unit) of the Freelander 2 automatic transmission
Required tools and materials:
*Socket set
* Hex key set
* Flat blade screwdriver
* Retaining ring remover
* Valve block gasket
* Transmission fluid ATF
Procedure:
1. Preparation
* Place the car on a lift or overpass.
* Remove the engine crankcase protection.
* Drain the transmission fluid from the automatic transmission.
2. Removing the oil pan
* Unscrew the bolts securing the oil pan to the automatic transmission housing.
* Remove the pan and gasket.
* Clean the pan and automatic transmission housing from residual transmission fluid and dirt.
3. Removing solenoids
* Disconnect the electrical connectors from the solenoids.
* Remove the bolts securing the solenoids.
* Remove the solenoids.
4. Removing the valve body
* Remove the retaining rings from the valve body axle.
*Using a flat-blade screwdriver, carefully pry up the valve body and remove it.
5. Inspection and cleaning
* Inspect the valve body for damage or wear.
* Clean the valve body from residual transmission fluid and dirt.
6. Installation of the hydraulic unit
* Install a new gasket on the automatic transmission housing.
* Insert the valve body into the body and snap the locking rings into place.
* Install the solenoids and tighten the bolts.
* Connect the electrical connectors to the solenoids.
7. Installing the oil pan
* Install a new gasket on the oil pan.
* Reinstall the pan and tighten the bolts.
8. Filling with transmission fluid
* Fill the automatic transmission with transmission fluid to the level indicated on the dipstick.
9. Checking the work
* Start the engine and shift the automatic transmission selector to all positions.
* Check for transmission fluid leaks.
Note:
* Before removing the valve body, it is recommended to double-check for faults in the electrical wiring or electronic control unit of the automatic transmission.
* Installation of a new valve body must be performed by a qualified technician.
* After installing the valve body, it is necessary to adapt the automatic transmission.
