Self-diagnosis of Nissan Primera automatic transmission

Requirements:

*Dead battery
* Paperclip or wire

Procedure:

1. Turn off the ignition.
2. Connect the negative terminal of the battery to the positive terminal of the diagnostic connector. The diagnostic connector is located under the hood, usually near the battery or fuse box.
3. Turn on the ignition without starting the engine.
4. Wait 3 seconds.
5. Disconnect the negative battery terminal from the diagnostic connector.
6. Count the number of times the Check Engine light blinks. Each error code consists of two digits separated by a pause.
7. Write down the error codes.

Deciphering error codes:

| 20 | Forward Solenoid 1 Malfunction |
| 22 | Forward Solenoid 2 Malfunction |
| 24 | Neutral solenoid malfunction |
| 26 | Transmission release solenoid malfunction |
| 28 | Pressure Relief Valve Solenoid Malfunction |
| 30 | Range Select Solenoid Malfunction |
| 32 | Pressure Control Solenoid Malfunction |
| 34 | Faulty automatic transmission fluid temperature sensor |
| 36 | Faulty automatic transmission fluid pressure sensor |
| 38 | Malfunction of the mechanical part of the automatic transmission |
| 40 | Malfunction of the automatic transmission electronic control unit |

Resetting error codes:

After troubleshooting and replacing the required component, you need to reset the error codes as follows:

1. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery for 1 minute.
2. Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
3. Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes.
4. Turn off the engine.
5. Start the engine and check if the error codes disappear.
