Self-diagnosis of Nissan Navara automatic transmission
For Navara D40 models from 2005 to 2015
Required equipment:
* Paperclip or wire
Procedure:
1. Place the gear shift lever in the “P” position.
2. Turn on the ignition, but do not start the engine.
3. Locate the DLC diagnostic connector. It is usually located under the steering column or near the fuse box.
4. Insert a paperclip or wire into pins No. 1 (GND) and No. 7 (L) of the diagnostic connector.
5. Wait 3 seconds.
6. Pull out the paperclip and leave it in quotes #1 and #8 (TR).
7. Start the engine.
8. Read fault codes. The engine will flash trouble codes with the automatic transmission warning light (AT CL) or malfunction indicator light (MIL).
9. Each code consists of two digits. The first digit indicates the error category, and the second digit indicates the error code.
10. Write down all trouble codes.
Deciphering fault codes:
* P07 – Transmissions
* P08 – Gear ratio
* P09 – Transmission and control components
* P17 – automatic transmission
For example:
* Code P0715 is a Transmission fault code and indicates a faulty gear position sensor.
Note:
*Some Navara models may use a different diagnostic connector. Check your vehicle’s owner’s manual for more information.
*If you have trouble reading trouble codes, contact a qualified mechanic.
