Torque converter oil seal, automatic transmission Chevrolet Cruze

Purpose:

The torque converter seal prevents transmission fluid (ATF) from leaking between the engine and the torque converter.

Location:

The torque converter seal is located at the rear of the engine crankshaft where it enters the torque converter.

Symptoms of malfunction:

* ATF leak from under the torque converter
*Reducing ATF level
* Slipping or unstable operation of the automatic transmission
* Extraneous noise or vibration from the automatic transmission

Causes of malfunction:

* Wear of the oil seal
* Damaged or incorrectly installed oil seal
* Increased pressure in automatic transmission
* Automatic transmission overheating

Recommended replacement interval:

Replacing the torque converter oil seal is usually recommended every 100,000-150,000 km or as recommended by the manufacturer.

Required parts:

* Torque converter oil seal
* Transmission fluid (ATF)

Tools:

* Transmission stand
* Set of keys
* Rags
* Brake cleaner
* Sealant (optional)

Replacement procedure:

1. Jack up the vehicle and place it on stands.
2. Remove the lower engine protection.
3. Loosen the flex disc (torque converter flange) bolts.
4. Place a jack under the torque converter for support.
5. Remove the floppy disk bolts and remove the floppy disk.
6. Insert the new oil seal into the torque converter cover, making sure it is installed correctly.
7. Apply sealant to the edges of the seal (optional).
8. Install the floppy disk and tighten the bolts.
9. Lower the torque converter into place.
10. Tighten the flex plate bolts.
11. Reinstall the lower engine guard.
12. Fill the automatic transmission with fresh ATF.
13. Check the ATF level and add if necessary.
