Chrysler automatic transmission control unit repair
Required tools and materials:
* Set of socket wrenches or sockets
* Diagnostic equipment
* Spare automatic transmission control unit
* Grease for electrical contacts
Repair procedure:
1. Disconnect the battery. Loosen the negative battery cable clamp and remove the cable.
2. Remove the automatic transmission control unit. Locate the automatic transmission control unit, which is usually located near the transmission. Disconnect all electrical connectors from it. Unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the control unit.
3. Inspect the control unit. Check the control unit for visible damage such as cracks, burns, or swollen capacitors. If there is noticeable damage, the control unit must be replaced.
4. Check electrical connectors. Inspect electrical connectors for corrosion, dirt, or damaged contacts. Clean the connectors if necessary using an electrical contact cleaner.
5. Install a new control unit. Insert the new control unit into its original position and secure it with the mounting bolts.
6. Connect electrical connectors. Connect all electrical connectors to the automatic transmission control unit.
7. Connect the battery. Connect the negative battery cable.
8. Run diagnostics. Use diagnostic equipment to check for trouble codes and ensure that the automatic transmission control unit is functioning correctly.
9. Transmission adaptation. If, when replacing the automatic transmission control unit, a fault code appears indicating problems with transmission adaptation, it is necessary to perform the adaptation procedure. This procedure resets the transmission and allows it to relearn the new control unit.
