Transmission filter location for Mazda Capella with automatic transmission:
1. Park the car on a level surface. Make sure the gear shift lever is in the “P” (Park) position.
2. Place the car on a lift or use a jack. Raise the front of the car high enough to gain access to the underbody.
3. Find the gearbox. It is located at the bottom of the engine, next to the driveshaft.
4. Locate the transmission pan. This is a metal plate that attaches to the bottom of the transmission.
5. Locate the transmission filter. The filter is usually located at the front of the transmission pan, near the edge.
Replacing the transmission filter:
1. Prepare the car. Loosen the drain plug on the transmission pan using a wrench or socket.
2. Drain the transmission fluid. Place a pan under the transmission and remove the drain plug to drain the fluid.
3. Remove the transmission pan. Remove the bolts that secure the pan to the transmission and carefully remove the pan.
4. Remove and replace the filter. The filter is usually bolted or snapped into place. Remove the old filter and replace it with a new one.
5. Clean the tray and reinstall it. Clean the transmission pan and install a new gasket if necessary. Apply a small amount of gasket sealant to the corners of the pan and install it in place. Tighten the mounting bolts.
6. Pour new fluid into the transmission. Add the recommended type and amount of fluid to the transmission through the dipstick hole.
7. Check the fluid level. Start the engine and idle it for a few minutes. Check the fluid level on the dipstick and add it if necessary.
8. Reset the transmission fluid meter (if equipped). Some Mazda Capella models have a transmission fluid meter that must be reset after changing the fluid. Consult your vehicle’s owner’s manual for instructions on how to do this.
