Determining a faulty automatic transmission oil pressure sensor
Signs of a faulty automatic transmission oil pressure sensor include:
* The automatic transmission oil pressure warning light comes on
* Low oil pressure in automatic transmission
* The oil pressure in the automatic transmission is too high
* Incorrect automatic transmission operation
* Gear slippage
Replacing the automatic transmission oil pressure sensor
To replace the automatic transmission oil pressure sensor, you will need the following tools and materials:
* New automatic transmission oil pressure sensor
* Wrench or socket wrench of appropriate size
* Liquid collection container
* Automatic transmission fluid
* Clean rag
Replacement procedure:
1. Place the car on a lift or raise it with a jack.
2. Find the automatic transmission oil pressure sensor.
3. Place a container under the sensor.
4. Using a wrench or socket wrench, carefully unscrew the sensor.
5. Allow the oil to drain into the container.
6. Apply a small amount of sealant to the threads of the new sensor.
7. Screw in the new sensor by hand until it stops.
8. Tighten the sensor with a wrench or socket wrench according to the specified tightening torque (see vehicle repair manual).
9. Fill the automatic transmission with new fluid.
10. Check the fluid level and add fluid if necessary.
11. Lower the vehicle to the ground.
12. Start the engine and check the automatic transmission oil pressure.
