Location of automatic transmission speed sensor in Toyota Celica
The automatic transmission speed sensor in the Toyota Celica is located on the transmission output shaft.
Steps to remove and replace the automatic transmission speed sensor:
1. Set the parking brake and block the rear wheels.
2. Turn off the engine and let it cool.
3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
4. Raise the front of the vehicle using a jack and install stands for safety.
5. Remove the lower engine guard (if installed).
6. Locate the automatic transmission speed sensor on the transmission housing. It will have a wiring harness attached to it.
7. Disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor.
8. Depending on your Celica model, you may need to remove one bolt or nut to remove the sensor.
9. Remove the sensor from the transmission housing.
Installing a new automatic transmission speed sensor:
1. Clean the contact surfaces of the sensor and transmission housing.
2. Apply a small amount of lubricant to the sensor O-ring.
3. Insert the new sensor into the transmission housing.
4. Tighten the sensor mounting bolt or nut.
5. Connect the electrical connector to the sensor.
6. Reinstall the lower engine guard.
7. Lower the vehicle to the ground.
8. Connect the negative battery cable.
9. Clear fault codes if present.
