Location of the speed pulse sensor (VSS) in a Hyundai Accent with automatic transmission:
Models before 2015
*Under the hood, on the left side of the transmission, next to the speedometer cable
2015 and newer models
* On the rear of the gearbox housing, next to the drive shaft
Sensor appearance
*Small cylindrical sensor with an electrical connector at the end
Speed pulse sensor function
The speed pulse sensor converts the rotation of the drive shaft into electrical signals that are transmitted to the speedometer, engine control unit (ECU) and other vehicle components. These signals are used for:
* Displays vehicle speed on the speedometer
* Gear shift adjustment in automatic transmission
* Calculate fuel consumption and mileage
Replacing the speed pulse sensor
If the speed pulse sensor malfunctions, it must be replaced. Replacing the sensor is relatively simple and can be done yourself using the following tools:
* Wrench set
* Screwdriver
* New speed pulse sensor
Replacement steps:
1. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
2. Locate the speed pulse sensor.
3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor.
