The automatic transmission control unit (TCM) is located under the hood of the car, on the driver’s side. It is usually located under a plastic cover next to the battery.

This is a rectangular block with several connectors and wires. It may have “TCM” or “Transmission Control Module” printed on it.

* Controls automatic transmission gear shifting.
* Determines the current gear and operating mode of the automatic transmission.
