Procedure for replacing automatic transmission fluid in a Chevrolet Aveo
Required tools and materials:
* New automatic transmission fluid (about 5-7 liters)
* New automatic transmission pan gasket
* Basin or bucket for draining waste liquid
* Funnel
* Wrenches (or ratchet with attachments):
* At 10 mm
* At 17 mm
* Torque wrench (optional)
Precautions:
* Make sure the engine is cold and has not been running for at least 30 minutes.
* Raise the vehicle on a lift or place it on stable supports.
* Wear gloves and safety glasses.
Step by step instructions:
1. Find the automatic transmission pan. It is usually located at the bottom of the gearbox.
2. Unscrew the drain plug. Located at the bottom of the automatic transmission pan. Use a 17mm wrench.
3. Drain the used fluid. Place a bowl or bucket under the drain plug and allow the liquid to drain.
4. Unscrew the automatic transmission pan. Use a 10mm wrench to remove all bolts holding the pan in place. Remove the drip tray carefully as there may be liquid left in it.
5. Clean the tray and magnets. Remove all gasket residue and deposits from the old gasket and magnets on the pan.
6. Install a new gasket. Apply a thin layer of automatic transmission fluid to new gaskets and install them on the pan and automatic transmission housing.
7. Reinstall the tray. Carefully align the pan with the automatic transmission housing and carefully tighten the bolts. Use a torque wrench to tighten the bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications (usually 8-12 Nm).
8. Screw in the drain plug. Use a new drain plug gasket and torque it to manufacturer specifications (usually 30-50 Nm).
9. Fill with new automatic transmission fluid. Using a funnel, fill the automatic transmission with the new amount of fluid specified in your vehicle’s service manual.
10. Check the automatic transmission fluid level. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Then switch the automatic transmission selector to all positions and return to the parking position. Check the fluid level with the automatic transmission dipstick. Add liquid if necessary.

* When replacing the automatic transmission fluid, it is recommended to also replace the automatic transmission filter.
* Regularly changing the automatic transmission fluid will extend the life of the gearbox.
