Checking the automatic transmission oil level in Toyota Avensis

Tools:

* Marker tape or dipstick for measuring liquid level
*Clean cloth or rag

Procedure:

1. Warm up the engine. Drive for some distance (about 10-15 minutes) to allow the transmission to warm up.
2. Place the car on a level surface. This will provide an accurate oil level reading.
3. Turn off the engine. Place the car in the “parking” position.
4. Open the hood. Locate the automatic transmission fluid dipstick. It is usually located in the rear of the engine compartment and has a yellow or red handle.
5. Remove the dipstick. Insert it all the way and then remove it.
6. Wipe the dipstick with a clean cloth.
7. Insert the dipstick back. Again, push it all the way in.
8. Remove the dipstick again. Now it will show two oil levels: “hot” and “cold”.
9. Check the oil level. Make sure the oil level is between the hot and cold marks. If the level is below the cold mark, add oil. If the level is above the hot mark, drain some oil.

Note:

* To correctly check the automatic transmission oil level, the oil temperature must be about 80-95°C.
* It is recommended to check the automatic transmission oil level every 15,000-20,000 km or if problems arise with gear shifting.
* Use only automatic transmission fluid recommended by the manufacturer.
