Checking the automatic transmission oil level in a Mercedes-Benz W140
Materials:
* Engine oil for automatic transmission (if required)
* Dipstick for automatic transmission
*Work gloves
Instructions:
1. Start the engine and warm up the automatic transmission. Drive the vehicle for 10-15 minutes to allow the transmission operating temperature to reach its maximum.
2. Place the car on a level surface. Apply the parking brake.
3. Open the hood. Find the dipstick for the automatic transmission. It is usually located near the engine block.
4. Pull out and wipe the dipstick. There should be two marks on the dipstick: cold and hot.
5. Insert the dipstick back into the tube until it stops. Wait a few seconds for the oil to drain down the dipstick.
6. Pull out the dipstick. The oil level should be between the cold and hot marks when the oil is hot. If the oil level is below the “cold” mark, you need to add oil.
7. Add oil. Use a funnel to add the recommended type of automatic transmission oil. Add oil in small portions, checking the level periodically.
8. Check the oil level again. Insert and pull out the dipstick to ensure the oil level is within acceptable limits.
9. Close the hood.
Notes:
* Check the oil level with the engine off only if the vehicle has been parked for more than 30 minutes.
* Do not overfill oil. Excess oil can lead to problems with the automatic transmission.
*If the oil level is significantly below the cold mark, there may be a leak. Contact a mechanic for diagnosis and repair.
* It is recommended to change the automatic transmission oil every 25,000-30,000 km or more often, depending on operating conditions.
