Checking Mazda automatic transmission solenoids

Materials:

* Ohmmeter
* Solenoid connectors

Procedure:

1. Disconnect the battery:

* Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery terminal.

2. Find solenoids:

* Automatic transmission solenoids are usually located on the transmission housing.
*Refer to your service manual for the exact location of the solenoids.

3. Disconnect the solenoid connectors:

* Disconnect the electrical connectors from each solenoid.

4. Check the resistance of the solenoids:

* Set the ohmmeter to resistance measurement mode.
* Connect one ohmmeter probe to the solenoid terminal and the other probe to the other terminal.
* Read the resistance value on the ohmmeter display.

5. Compare the readings with the technical specifications:

*Refer to the service manual for resistance specifications for each solenoid.
* Compare your readings with the technical specifications.

6. Interpretation of results:

*Normal reading: Resistance is within specifications. The solenoid is working fine.
*High readings: Resistance is well above specifications. The solenoid may be open.
*Low reading: Resistance is well below specifications. The solenoid may be shorted.

7. Additional check:

*If any abnormal readings are found, you can perform further testing by using an oscilloscope to observe the solenoid waveform while the engine is running.

Note:

*To accurately check the resistance of the solenoids, it is important to use an accurate ohmmeter.
* If you find faulty solenoids, they must be replaced with new ones.
* It is recommended that you seek professional help if you are unsure about the verification procedure.
