Check while the engine is running:

* Start the engine and let it idle.
* Select “D” (Drive) position and run the engine for a few seconds.
* Check for noise, shock or vibration when shifting gears.
* Change multiple modes (P, R, N, D). Switching should be smooth and without jerking.

Check while driving:

* Accelerate to 40-50 km/h and press the gas pedal to shift to the next gear.
* Check whether the shift occurs smoothly and without slipping.
* Stop and put the vehicle in reverse. Switching should be smooth and noise-free.

Computer diagnostics:

*Connect BMW scanner to read fault codes.
*Check for transmission related error codes.

Additional tips:

* Maintain the transmission according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
*Use only recommended transmission fluid.
* Avoid sudden acceleration and braking, which can damage the transmission.
