Checking the valve body of the automatic transmission

Required tools and materials:

* Gear oil
*Transmission filter
* Oil pan
* Oil pan seal
* Transmission sealant
* Pressure gauge
* Hose for pressure gauge
* Syringe
* Liquid container
* Rags, rags

Execution order:

1. Preparation

* Place the car on a level surface and secure it with the parking brake.
* Remove the oil pan by removing the bolts and draining the oil into a container.
* Replace the oil filter.

2. Checking line pressure valves

* Connect the pressure gauge to the line pressure fitting on the valve body.
* Move the gear selector to the “Parking” or “Neutral” position (depending on the type of automatic transmission).
* Start the engine and warm it up to operating temperature.
* Read the line pressure value from the pressure gauge. It must comply with the specifications specified in the automatic transmission repair manual.

3. Checking the pressure regulator valves

* Disconnect the oil supply hose to the pressure regulator valve.
* Connect a syringe filled with transmission oil to the valve fitting.
* Apply pressure slowly to the valve. The pressure should gradually increase to the maximum value specified in the repair manual.
*If the pressure is not within specification, replace the valve.

4. Checking the pump bypass valve

* Remove the oil pump pan.
* Loosen the pressure adjustment bolt of the bypass valve.
* Start the engine and warm it up to operating temperature.
* Increase engine speed and watch for oil leakage from the valve. The leak should start at a certain pressure specified in the repair manual.
* If the leak does not start or starts at the wrong pressure, adjust the valve or replace it.

5. Checking solenoids

* For electronically controlled automatic transmissions, check the resistance and operation of the solenoids.
*Measure the resistance of the solenoids using a multimeter. It must comply with the specifications given in the repair manual.
*Connect the solenoids to the power source and check their operation. They should move smoothly and without jamming.

6. Assembly

* Install the hydraulic unit on the pallet and tighten the bolts.
* Install the oil pan with a new seal and tighten the bolts.
* Fill with new transmission oil.
* Check the oil level and adjust if necessary.

7. Testing

* Start the engine and check the operation of the automatic transmission.
* Switch the gear selector between different positions and listen for any abnormal noises or malfunctions.
* Take a test drive to check that the automatic transmission is operating correctly.

Precautions:

* Always follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for automatic transmission maintenance and repair.
*Use only high quality transmission fluids and filters.
* Take precautions when handling transmission fluids and valve body components.
* Carry out regular checks and maintenance of the automatic transmission to prevent problems with valve body valves.
