Reasons for automatic transmission overheating:

1. Lack of transmission fluid (ATF):
*Low ATF levels result in reduced lubrication and cooling of components.
*May be caused by a leak, worn seals, or a recent fluid level check.

2. Contaminated or old ATF:
* Dirty ATF can clog filters and impede fluid flow.
* Over time, ATF loses its lubricating and cooling properties.
* It is recommended to replace the ATF and filter regularly according to the vehicle’s owner’s manual.

3. Malfunctions in the cooling system:
* Clogged or faulty coolant hoses, radiator, or heat exchanger can make it difficult for heat to escape from the transmission.
*A faulty engine thermostat can result in insufficient ATF cooling.

4. Mechanical faults:
* Worn bearings, gears or torque converter can generate excessive friction and heat.
* Faulty solenoids can cause gear slippage and excessive heat.

5. Incorrect driving style:
* Aggressive acceleration, braking, or towing heavy loads can cause the transmission to overheat.
*Slipping in mud or snow can also cause excessive stress.

6. Electrical faults:
* Faults in the wiring, sensors, or transmission control module (TCM) can cause the transmission to malfunction and overheat.

7. Other reasons:
*Blocked catalytic converter
* Faulty ATF temperature sensor
* Faulty oil pump
