Correct operation of the automatic transmission (AT)
Gear shift:
* Gears should shift smoothly and in a timely manner, without jerking or slipping.
* Shift times must be adjusted to your driving style and driving conditions.
Operating modes:
* In Drive mode, the car should move forward, automatically switching to the desired gear.
* In Neutral mode, the transmission is disconnected from the engine, allowing the vehicle to roll freely.
* In Parking mode, the transmission is locked, preventing the vehicle from moving.
* In the “Reverse” mode, the car moves backwards.
Torque converter lock:
* The torque converter should lock up at high speeds to improve efficiency and reduce fuel consumption.
* Blocking should occur smoothly and imperceptibly.
Emergency mode:
* If a fault is detected in the automatic transmission, it must go into limp mode, limiting the available gears.
* In this case, you need to contact a car service as soon as possible.
Lubrication and cooling system:
* The transmission fluid level must be at the correct level and it must be clean.
* The cooling system must effectively remove heat from the automatic transmission.
Electronic control unit (ECU):
* The ECU must control the operation of the automatic transmission, receiving and processing signals from various sensors.
* The ECU must ensure correct gear shifting, torque converter locking and control of other automatic transmission functions.
Proper care and maintenance:
* Regular maintenance and replacement of transmission fluid are critical to the proper operation of the automatic transmission.
* If you experience any problems with the automatic transmission, such as slipping, jerking or leaking, you should immediately contact a qualified mechanic.
