Gear shifting in a Kia automatic transmission
P (Parking)
*Used when the vehicle is parked and left unattended.
* Blocks the transmission.
R (Reverse)
*Used to move backwards.
* Switch to this mode only after the vehicle has come to a complete stop.
N (Neutral)
* Locks the transmission, but does not stop the engine.
* Used when towing or for a short stop at a traffic light or in a traffic jam.
D (Drive)
* Basic driving mode.
* Automatically changes gears to ensure optimal engine performance.
OD (Overdrive)
* Activates top gear to save fuel when driving at higher speeds.
* Turns off when accelerating hard or driving on inclined surfaces.
2 and 1 (manual mode)
* Manual transmissions used in off-road conditions, when towing or when greater control of the vehicle is required.
S button (Sport mode)
* Modifies transmission behavior to provide faster gear changes and sharper acceleration.
Instructions for use:
1. Press the brake pedal.
2. Move the gear shift lever to the desired position.
3. Release the brake pedal and the car will begin to move.
4. When changing gears while moving, gently press the accelerator pedal.
Recommendations:
*Always use the brake pedal before changing gears.
* Do not shift into R (Reverse) mode while driving.
* When towing, always use N (Neutral) mode.
*Service the transmission regularly, following the manufacturer’s recommendations.
