Required materials:

* New gear oil meeting Nissan specifications (typically 4 to 6 liters required)
* New gearbox oil filter
* Oil pan gasket
* Pipe wrench
* Funnel
* Rags

Tools:

* Wrench set or ratchet wrench
* Wrench or torque wrench
* Hex key
* Oil drain pan

Steps:

1. Raise the car:

* Raise the vehicle on jacks to provide access to the underbody.
* Install safety stands for safety.

2. Drain the old oil:

* Locate the drain plug on the transmission oil pan.
* Place a pan under the drain plug and unscrew it using a pipe wrench.
* Allow the oil to drain completely.

3. Replace the oil filter:

* Find the oil filter and unscrew it with a hex wrench.
*Apply some new oil to the new filter gasket.
* Screw the new filter into place by hand, and then tighten it 3/4 turn with a hex wrench.

4. Replace the oil pan gasket:

* Clean the surface of the oil pan and gasket.
* Apply a new gasket and secure it.

5. Install the drain plug:

* Screw the drain plug back into place and tighten it with a pipe wrench.

6. Fill with new oil:

*Using a funnel, pour new gear oil into the gearbox.
*Oil capacity varies depending on your vehicle model, so check your owner’s manual.

7. Check the oil level:

* Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes.
* Shift through all gears and return to park.
*Remove the oil dipstick, clean it and reinsert it.
* The oil level should be between the “Min” and “Max” marks on the dipstick.

8. CVT Oil Meter Reset:

*If your Qashqai is equipped with a CVT transmission, you will need to reset the CVT oil meter after changing the oil.
* To do this, turn on the ignition, but do not start the engine.
* Quickly press the gas pedal 5 times within 10 seconds.
* Wait until the blinking “Maintenance” indicator starts blinking more slowly.
* Start the engine and let it idle for about a minute.

9. Lower the car:

* Lower the car from the jacks.

10. Check for leaks:

* Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
* Check under the car for oil leaks.

Note:

* It is recommended to change the gearbox oil every 45,000 – 60,000 km or in accordance with the maintenance schedule for your vehicle.
*Always use transmission oil that meets Nissan specifications for your vehicle model.
*If you are unsure of your ability to perform this task, consult a certified Nissan mechanic.
