Tools and materials:
* Flat head screwdriver
* Ratchet wrench
*Socket set
* Solvent (optional)
Instructions:
1. Place the vehicle in Park mode (P) and apply the parking brake.
2. Remove the plastic trim around the shift selector.
It is usually secured with latches. Carefully pry it up with a flathead screwdriver and remove it.
3. Disconnect electrical connectors.
They are usually secured with clamps. Squeeze the clamps and disconnect the connectors.
4. Remove the selector lock (if equipped).
On some vehicles, removing the selector requires the lock to be removed. It is usually secured with a screw or latch. Unscrew the screw or disconnect the latch.
5. Unscrew the selector selector mounting bolts.
These are usually 10mm or 12mm head bolts. Unscrew them using a ratchet wrench and a socket.
6. Pull the selector up slightly.
It should come out easily. If it is stuck, move it slightly from side to side.
7. Clean the selector selector installation area.
Use solvent to clean dust and dirt from the selector assembly area.
8. Install a new selector.
Place the new selector into the socket and press it lightly until it clicks into place.
9. Tighten the mounting bolts.
Tighten the mounting bolts to the torque specified in the vehicle’s owner’s manual.
10. Install the selector lock (if equipped).
Attach the selector lock if it was previously removed.
11. Connect the electrical connectors.
Connect the electrical connectors, snapping them into place.
12. Install the plastic trim around the shift selector.
Snap the plastic trim into place.
13. Check the operation of the shift selector.
Check the operation of all selector positions, making sure it operates smoothly and shifts gears correctly.
