Replacing the automatic transmission pan gasket on a Toyota Prado 120
Tools and materials:
* Set of keys
* Flat head screwdriver
* Container for draining automatic transmission fluid
* New automatic transmission pan gasket
* Automatic transmission oil (if necessary)
* Gloves
* Rags
Instructions:
1. Prepare the car: Turn off the engine and park the car. Open the hood and disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
2. Raise the vehicle: Raise the front of the vehicle on a lift or using jacks. Install safety supports under the vehicle frame.
3. Remove the crankcase guard: Remove the bolts securing the crankcase guard and remove it.
4. Drain the automatic transmission fluid: Place a container under the automatic transmission pan. Using a flathead screwdriver, loosen the drain plug and drain the automatic transmission fluid.
5. Remove the automatic transmission pan: Clean the surface around the automatic transmission pan. Remove the bolts securing the pan to the automatic transmission housing. Carefully pry the tray and separate it from the body.
6. Clean the surfaces: Clean the surfaces of the automatic transmission pan and automatic transmission housing from old gasket and sealant.
7. Install a new gasket: Apply a thin layer of transmission sealant to the surface of the transmission pan. Install a new gasket on the pan and align it.
8. Install the automatic transmission pan: Lift the automatic transmission pan and install it on the automatic transmission housing. Tighten the pan bolts by hand, and then use a torque wrench to the torque specified in the service manual.
9. Tighten the drain plug: Clean the drain plug and apply sealant to it. Install the drain plug and tighten it using a torque wrench.
10. Fill with new automatic transmission fluid: Measure the volume of drained automatic transmission fluid and pour the same amount of new fluid through the automatic transmission filler tube. Check the fluid level and adjust if necessary.
11. Connect the battery: Connect the negative cable to the battery.
12. Start the engine: Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes to circulate the transmission fluid through the system. Check for leaks.
13. Check the automatic transmission fluid level: Warm up the engine and automatic transmission to operating temperature. Check the automatic transmission fluid level and adjust it if necessary.
Note: It is recommended to use the original automatic transmission pan gasket to ensure the best sealing and reliability.
