Automatic transmission shift ranges

Automatic transmissions (automatic transmissions) have several gear shift ranges, each of which corresponds to a specific range of speeds and driving conditions.

Main switching ranges:

* P (Park): The transmission is locked and the vehicle is in park mode.
* R (Reverse): The transmission is in reverse.
* N (Neutral): Transmission is off and the vehicle is in neutral.
* D (Drive): The transmission is in forward mode, automatically shifting gears in the optimal range.
* L (Low): The transmission is in low gear mode, typically used when driving at low speeds or under heavy loads.

Additional ranges:

Some automatic transmissions may have additional ranges, such as:

*2: The transmission is in second gear, usually used when driving at medium speeds.
*3: The transmission is in third gear, usually used when driving at high speeds.
* OD (Overdrive): The transmission is in overdrive mode, used to save fuel when driving at high speeds.
*S (Sport): The transmission is tuned to shift more aggressively, delivering faster acceleration.
* M (Manual): The transmission allows the driver to manually change gears.

Range selection:

The gear shift range is selected by the gear lever and matches the driving conditions and vehicle speed. The driver must select the appropriate range depending on the situation, such as parking, reversing, driving forward, driving on hilly terrain or quickly accelerating.
