Mitsubishi Lancer automatic transmission diagnostics
Tools:
* OBD2 trouble code reader
* Multimeter
* Dipstick for checking fluid level
* Tool set
Procedure:
Visual check:
* Inspect the transmission for leaks, cracks or other damage.
* Check the automatic transmission fluid level using a dipstick, making sure it is within the operating range.
Scan Trouble Codes (DTC):
*Connect the OBD2 code reader to the car.
*Read any stored fault codes related to the automatic transmission.
*Refer to your vehicle’s service manual for decoding codes.
Checking solenoids:
* Disconnect the automatic transmission solenoid connectors.
*Use a multimeter to check the resistance of the solenoids (it should be within manufacturer’s specifications).
* Replace faulty solenoids.
Checking speed sensors:
* Check the input and output speed sensors with a multimeter (values should be within manufacturer’s specifications).
* Check the sensor wiring harnesses for damage.
* Replace faulty sensors.
Checking fluid pressure:
* Connect the pressure gauge to the automatic transmission pressure line.
* Start the engine and change gears.
* Check pressure readings (must meet manufacturer’s specifications).
* If the pressure is too low or high, check the automatic transmission filter, pressure control valve and pump.
Checking the clutch operation:
* Check the torque converter lockup using a multimeter (resistance should be low when the clutch is locked).
* If the clutch does not lock or does not lock correctly, check the wiring harness, clutch control solenoid and the torque converter itself.
Checking clutches and steel:
* If the gear slips or does not engage, this may indicate wear on the clutches or steel in the automatic transmission.
*Repair will require removal and disassembly of the transmission.
Additional tips:
* Take precautions when working on the automatic transmission as some areas may be hot.
* It is recommended that you contact a qualified mechanic for accurate diagnosis and repair.
* Regular automatic transmission maintenance, including changing the fluid and filter, can extend its service life.
