Driving with an automatic transmission (AT)
Starting the engine:
* Make sure the gear shift knob is in the ‘Park’ (P) position.
*Press the brake pedal.
* Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to start the engine.
Gear shift:
*Press the brake pedal.
* Move the gear shift knob to the desired position:
* D (Drive): To drive forward normally.
* R (Reverse): To move backwards.
* N (Neutral): To disconnect the transmission from the engine, for example when towing.
*P (Park): To lock the transmission output shaft.
Speed control:
* Accelerate by pressing the accelerator pedal.
* Brake by pressing the brake pedal. When braking sharply, the automatic transmission will automatically switch to a lower gear for better deceleration.
Stop:
*Press the brake pedal.
* When the vehicle is stopped, move the gear shift knob to the ‘Park’ (P) position.
Automatic transmission features:
* Convenience: Eliminates the need for a clutch and manual gear changes.
* Smooth shifting: The automatic transmission shifts smoothly between gears, providing a more comfortable ride.
* Torque converter lock-up: At higher speeds, the torque converter locks up, reducing energy loss and increasing efficiency.
* Shift Modes: Some automatic transmissions have shift modes, such as Eco or Sport, that change shift points for optimal performance or fuel economy.
* Maintenance: Automatic transmissions require regular maintenance, including replacing transmission fluid and filters.
Adviсe:
* Do not park your car while it is moving.
* Avoid towing automatic transmission vehicles over long distances or at high speeds.
* If the automatic transmission is acting up, immediately take the car for maintenance.
