Tools and materials:
* New automatic transmission oil (check specifications for your car model)
* New automatic transmission oil filter
* Automatic transmission pan gasket
* Set of wrenches or ratchets
* Funnel
* Container for draining used oil
* Gloves
Oil change process:
1. Raise and secure the vehicle. Use jacks or a lift to raise the vehicle and secure it on stands.
2. Remove the crankcase protection (if equipped). If your vehicle has a crankcase guard, remove it to gain access to the transmission pan.
3. Install a container to drain the oil. Place a container under the automatic transmission pan to collect used oil.
4. Drain the oil. Loosen the automatic transmission pan drain plug using a wrench or ratchet. Remove the drain plug carefully as hot oil will leak out. Let the oil drain completely.
5. Replace the oil filter. Unscrew the bolts securing the automatic transmission filter to the pan. Remove the old oil filter. Lubricate the O-ring on the new filter with new oil. Insert the new filter and tighten the bolts.
6. Change the pan gasket. Remove the old pan gasket from the automatic transmission pan. Clean the surfaces of the pan and the automatic transmission housing from the remnants of the old gasket. Install a new gasket on the automatic transmission pan.
7. Reinstall the tray. Install the automatic transmission pan onto the automatic transmission housing. Tighten the bolts around the perimeter of the pan.
8. Fill with new oil. Using a funnel, pour new automatic transmission oil into the automatic transmission pan. Check the oil level using the automatic transmission dipstick. Add oil as needed until the level reaches the HOT mark on the dipstick.
9. Start the car. Start the engine and let it idle for several minutes, shifting the automatic transmission selector between all gears.
10. Check the oil level. Turn off the engine and let the oil drain for a few minutes. Check the oil level again using the automatic transmission dipstick and add if necessary.
11. Install the crankcase protection (if equipped). If your vehicle has a sump guard, reinstall it.
12. Reset the oil change counter. Consult your vehicle’s owner’s manual for instructions on how to reset the automatic transmission oil change counter.
