Tools and materials:
* New oil filter
* Basin for draining oil
* Oil filter wrench
* Gloves
* Funnel
* Automatic transmission oil
Instructions:
1. Warm up the engine: Drive the car for several kilometers to warm up the automatic transmission oil. This will make draining the oil easier.
2. Find the oil filter: Located under the car, next to the automatic transmission pan. It is a cylindrical threaded cartridge.
3. Prepare to drain the oil: Place a bowl under the oil filter to catch the drained oil.
4. Remove the oil filter: Carefully unscrew the oil filter by hand or using an oil filter wrench. Be careful as oil may spill out.
5. Clean the seating surface: Clean the seating surface of the oil filter on the automatic transmission housing from dirt or debris.
6. Apply Oil to Rubber Seal: Apply a small amount of automatic transmission oil to the rubber O-ring on the new oil filter.
7. Screw in the oil filter: Screw the new oil filter onto the seating surface by hand. Then tighten it another 3/4 turn using the oil filter wrench. Don’t overtighten.
8. Fill with automatic transmission oil: Remove the automatic transmission dipstick and fill in new automatic transmission oil using a funnel. Use oil recommended by the manufacturer.
9. Check the oil level: Measure the oil level using the automatic transmission dipstick. The oil level should be between the “min” and “max” marks on the dipstick.
10. Start the engine: Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
11. Check for Leaks: Visually check under the vehicle for oil leaks.
12. Recheck the oil level: Stop the engine and wait a few minutes for the oil to drain into the automatic transmission pan. Then check the oil level again using the dipstick. Add oil if necessary.
Adviсe:
* Replace the automatic transmission oil filter every 30,000-60,000 kilometers or according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
* Use only automatic transmission oil recommended by the manufacturer.
* Place the oil drain pan close enough to the oil filter to avoid oil splashing.
* Wear gloves when changing the oil filter, as automatic transmission oil can irritate the skin.
