Materials required to change the oil in a Chevrolet Cobalt automatic transmission:

* New Dexron VI gear oil (approx. 4 l)
* New transmission oil filter
* Transmission pan gasket
* Funnel for filling oil
* Hex key 19 mm
* Needle nose pliers
* Cleaning brush
* Rags or rags

Instructions:

1. Preparation:

* Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to warm up the oil.
* Turn off the engine and place the car on a level surface.

2. Draining old oil:

*Locate the transmission pan at the bottom of the transmission.
* Clean the drain plug from any dirt.
* Place a container under the drain hole to drain the used oil.
* Loosen the drain plug with a 19mm hex wrench and drain the old oil.
*Wait until all the oil has drained.

3. Replacing the oil filter:

* Remove the bolts holding the oil pan using a 19mm hex key.
* Carefully remove the pan and drain the remaining oil.
* Clean the surface of the oil pan and the magnets from metal shavings.
*Remove the old oil filter using needle nose pliers.
* Install the new oil filter in place.

4. Installing a new gasket:

* Apply a small amount of transmission oil to the new pan gasket.
* Install the gasket onto the pan and tighten the bolts using a 19mm hex key.

5. Filling with new oil:

* Use a funnel to pour new transmission oil into the drain hole.
* Pour in about 4 liters of oil.

6. Checking the oil level:

* Remove the oil level dipstick and wipe it with a cloth.
* Place the dipstick back into the tube and remove it again.
* The oil level should be between the “MIN” and “MAX” marks on the dipstick.
*If the oil level is below “MIN”, add a little more oil.

7. Reset error code (optional):

* Disconnect the battery terminal for 10 minutes to clear the transmission error code (if set).
* Reconnect the battery terminal.

8. Check for leaks:

* Start the engine and change gears to check for leaks.
*If there are any leaks, repair them.

Remember:

* Transmission oil must be changed every 50,000-60,000 km.
*Always use gear oil recommended by the manufacturer.
* If you are not confident in your abilities, contact a qualified mechanic to change the automatic transmission oil.
